World Poker Tour Launches First Ladies League
Female poker players are becoming more and more prevalent in today poker tournament industry, and the World Poker Tour (WPT) has responded accordingly, officially launching it first ever World Poker Tour Ladies (WPTL) league. Buy-ins for the various WPTL events and No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament circuit range from $300 to $1,500.
This latest addition to the WPT will provide ladies numerous opportunities to display their talents in prestigious tournaments without forking over 5-figure buy-ins. That means female poker players of all skill levels, from amateur and semi-pro up to professional level women, can participate in events along the WPT circuit. Each stop on the route will give these ladies a chance at a WPT title, as wells as a coveted seat in the WPTL Championship.
WPT Studios executive VP, Robyn Moder, spoke on behalf of the new World Poker tour Ladies league, "Women are a rising force in poker. By bringing a WPT ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the US, we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play."
The first ever WPTL Season is set to kick off January 20, 2008, at the Atlantic City, New Jersey, Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Features will include additional tournaments held at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California, and Bay 101 in San Jose, California.
The $1,5000 WPTL Championship is being held at the Bellagio, in Las Vegas, Nevada, along with a player party to coincide with the event. The final table of the WPTL Championship will be filmed for later broadcast on GSN, the new home of WPT broadcasting.
The winner of the WPTL Championship will receive the first ever WPT Ladies Championship title and of course a hefty cash prize in their pocket.
The WPTL has partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest group of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to empower women, save lives and find a cure for breast cancer. As such, 15% of every $1,500 buy-in at the WPTL Championship will go directly to support this worth cause. Players of the WPTL will have the opportunity to donate to the breast cancer society at each stop along the tour.
