The 2009 Five Star World Poker Classic WPT Championship event came to a close on Saturday night and it was Yevginiy Timoshenko who would claim the victory. Many thought Scotty Nguyen would earn the win and break a record for the most money earned but it was not to be.

The competition lasted eight days and the twenty one year old Timoshenko was able to hold on to claim his first WPT bracelet. Scotty Nguyen was looking to earn his second WPT title as well as become the all time money earning in the poker world.

But Scotty was unable to stay in the competition and was knocked out in sixth place. When heads up play began it was between Timoshenko and Ran Azor. After a break the tournament would be decided as Azor would raise and Timoshenko would go all in. Azor would call with Q-10 and Timoshenko showed A-3. The flop read Q-J-7 and the turn was a King and the river a 10 to give Timoshenko a straight and the win.

Final Results:

1st Yevgeniy Timoshenko -- $2,149,960
2nd Ran Azor -- $1,446,265
3rd Bertrand Grospellier -- $776,245
4th Christian Harder -- $571,965
5th Shannon Shorr -- $408,550
