Many of the biggest names remaining in the tournament were eliminated Monday, as the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event played down to its final table. Of the nine survivors, it’s Dan Fleyshman who holds the chip lead, having nearly 2 million in chips.
While the final table might lack star power, that’s only because several players busted out just a few spots short of the final table. The biggest name of all, Phil Ivey, was eliminated in 19th place when his AT ran into the AK of Ronald Lee. Ivey earned £26,400 for his efforts.
Several other notables went down as the tournament pared down from two tables to one. Viktor Blom, the Swedish player many believe to be the real world identity of online superstar Isildur1, busted out in 16th, taking home £33,285. Hoyt Corkins went just after in 15th, earning himself £42,454. Finally, it’s definitely worth mentioning Andrew Pantling’s performance. Pantling busted out in 11th place (£54,114), ending what had been a great run at the WSOPE over the past two weeks. Pantling finished 2nd to Phil Laak in Event #1, giving the 2010 EPT Grand Final winner two cashes in this year’s series.
While most of the star attractions were eliminated from the event, the final table is not without its marquee names. The biggest is Roland de Wolfe, the London-based pro who has won nearly $5 million in lifetime cashes and owns both a WSOP bracelet and a WPT title. Chip leader Dan Fleyshman certainly isn’t a big name, but the American does have a strong record of wins in smaller events over the last five years – though nothing that will compare to his finish at the WSOPE, which will undoubtedly be his biggest cash.
Each player remaining in the tournament is guaranteed at least £69,000, with £830,401 going to the eventual winner. For many viewers, live coverage will begin on ESPN3.com at noon EST on Tuesday. Here are the final table players, along with their chip counts:
Dan Fleyshman – 1,946,000
Ronald Lee – 1,899,000
