Four players remain in the World Series of Poker Europe’s £10,350 no-limit hold’em high roller heads-up event, including Gus Hansen, who is looking for his first ever World Series of Poker bracelet. The final four in this event also includes three other professional players: Ram Vaswani, Jim Collopy and Andrew Feldman.
The semifinal matches have already been set. In one, Hansen will take on Feldman, while the second pits Vaswani against Collopy. The final will be held using the best two-out-of-three format made famous in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship.
For Hansen, winning a WSOP bracelet would take a major monkey off of his back. Although Hansen has won over $7.5 million in his career, and has taken down 4 World Poker Tour titles and many other major tournaments, he has never won a bracelet. His closest call came in a final table appearance at the 2009 $50,000 HORSE event, when he finished 9th.
If Collopy or Feldman should win the event, it will also be the first bracelet for either of the two online pros. The only remaining player with a WSOP bracelet is Vaswani, who won the $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout event in 2007.
Several other big names made the money, but were nonetheless eliminated on the second day of play. Some of the most notable include Phil Ivey, Huck Seed, Daniel Negreanu and Howard Lederer.
The high roller heads-up tournament is event #4 on the World Series of Poker Europe schedule. Previous winners in earlier events include Scott Shelley, Jeffrey Lisandro and Phil Laak, who also claimed his first WSOP bracelet with the win. The final event, the £10,350 No Limit Hold’em Championship Event, begins on Thursday, and is scheduled to last six days.
