The competition is getting intense at the World Series Of Poker 2007, main event. At the end of day 4, there are 112 players competing for the final table. Of that 112, there are only two women left, both are from California. They are competing as seriously for the final table fervently as they did to get into the tournament. Kelly Jo McGlothlin will start day five with 871,000 chips and Maria Ho will begin with 885,000 in chips.

Kelly Jo McGlothlin is a police dispatcher living in Palmdale. In her first main event tournament, she is pushing through the crowd as she did when she won her way into the main event. She organized a series of tournaments for a home based game system (her home). The home game was organized to send the top player to the Main Event by gathering all of the buy-ins and earnings toward the cost of the 10,000-dollar buy in. Through the home series, Kelly Jo maintained leader status. When the entry fee was reached, Kelly Jo was in the top spot, thus she is now representing her home game in the biggest tournament in the Poker world. Following her progress is a large crowd of supporters; assumable they are from the game back home. This is her first major event, and she's taking her opponents by surprise.

Maria Ho has been a cash-game player since college. She attended the University of California, San Diego, where she found many Native American card rooms. After graduation, poker became her full time passion. A focus she has been able to do very well with. She has competed in the WSOP previously and like earlier in this year's tournament series, she has been in the money. Her success with poker outside the tournament scene is evident in her game play until now. Like Kelly Jo, Maria is taking her opponents out, one by one, and moving forward in the money. At this point in tournament play, wherever she may bust, she will take home her largest tournament cash, thus far.

To date, only one woman has reached the final table at a World Series Championship. In 1995, Poker Hall of Famer Barbara Enright finished in fifth place. There are still a few days to go before the final table is decided, but both are still in the running. The California natives are almost even in chips, and seeking the same goal, to break the gender record, and reach the final table.
