WSOP Day 3: Opposition Down To One Room

Jul 13, 2007

You can feel the enthusiasm from both players and spectators reverberating from the walls as Day 3 of the World Series of Poker Main Event brings the remaining 797 competitors into a single room. The freeze-out style of play now allows for each event's completion within a 24 hour period. Despite the lower count of entrants in this year's competition, prior events took up to several days to complete.

Day 3 of the Main Event was $10,000 No Limit Hold'Em, which saw the elimination of poker pros Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson and Gavin Smith. By the end of the day, the field of 797 participants dwindled to 337.

As the event kicked off, a relatively unknown name began with the chip lead - Robert Nehorayan with 1,000,000. Dario Minieri started the event in 6th place with 770,000 chips. As the day came to a close, Dario Minieri had moved into the lead, collecting so many chips he could scarcely see
his cards over an enormous stack of 2.4 million - (I don't think he was complaining!)
