WSOP Event No. 11 Winner Philip Tom
Event No. 11 of the World Series of Poker was a $5,000 buyin No Limit Hold'em Shootout that started on June 6th and finished up on June 8th with a winner. The event drew in 360 players all hoping to cash in a part of the $1,692,000 dollar prize pool. In this event the top 36 finishers would be cashing out with first place awarding $477,990 dollars.
A Shootout tournament changes the objective of the tournament to feel like a bunch of Sit n' Go's happening at the same time. The objective of a shootout is to win all the chips at the table so you can advance to the next round. On day one the tournament began with 360 players competing in ten handed tables.
The winner from each hand would then progress to the second round, on day two the 36 winners that would be cashing out in the event were divided into six tables playing a six handed Sit n' Go. The six winners from that round then made it to the final table which was played six handed. Basically the winner of the tournament would have to win three consecutive Sit n' Go rounds.
The final table of the tournament was played on the ESPN stage and since all players start out with an equal amount of chips at the beginning of each round there wasn't a chip leader at the start of the final table.
Phillip Tom from Las Vegas, Nevada a 55 year old financial advisor and investor won the tournament claiming his first final table at the WSOP as well as $477,990 dollars and his WSOP gold bracelet.
