Event No. 25 of the World Series of Poker was a $10,000 buyin Heads Up No Limit Texas Hold'em World Championship tournament that started on June 13th and played until June 15th.

Since this was a World Championship event it put more at stake then just a first place finish.  The player that took home this event would get the first place cash prize, a WSOP gold bracelet and the title of World Champion.

This event only had 256 players enter in but with a $10,000 dollar buyin it still created a nice prize pool of $2,406,400 dollars.  The reason there were only 256 players was because of the Heads Up single elimination format of the event.  The top 64 finishers in the event would take home some cash at the tournament.

This was the second time this event has been included on the World Series of Poker schedule, the first time the event was played was at last year's WSOP.  At last year's event there were 392 players accepted but some players ended up drawing a random "bye and didn't get to compete in the first round.  This was viewed as giving too much of an advantage to those players.

So the WSOP has adopted a single elimination format with less players and no byes for this year's event.  On day one of the tournament only 128 players survived to play in the second round.  The second produced 64 survivors and then they played down to 32 in round three.  On day two the 32 players was reduced to 16 in round four and then down to 8 in round five.

Then round six halved the number again to only four players and the final players took their seats in two sperate matches at the final table on day three.  The two winners of the matches then faced off for a “best two out of three” finale played out on ESPN’s main stage.  This basically means that the tournament champion has to win all nine heads up matches to win.

The winner of the event and title is Kenny Tran, a professional poker player from Arcadia, Canada.  He got $539,056 dollars for the win and his first WSOP gold bracelet.  This win makes 12 WSOP cashes in his career.  “It means a lot to me to win, especially on Fathers Day,” Tran said afterward. “The first time you win this is really great and it’s just a great, great feeling. I have never really had this kind of feeling before.”
