Event No. 28 of the World Series of Poker was a $5,000 buyin Pot Limit Omaha Tournament with rebuys that started on June 14th and wrapped up on June 16th. The tournament drew in 152 players and once you add in another 483 rebuys to the total prize pool you have $3,085,930 dollars at stake.  Only the top 18 finishers (the final two tables) would collect a piece of that pool.

Last year the event 145 entries and both the increase in participation and the number of rebuys made this year's tournament the largest Pot Limit Omaha prize pool in poker history.  Pot Limit Omaha originally made it's debut at the World Series of Poker back in 1984 and has made a reoccurring appearance every year since.

So far only two players in WSOP history have multiple Pot Limit Ohama wins, the players are Johnny Chan and “Amarillo Slim” Preston both with two wins each.  This year's tournament set a number of records on day one the tables (Orange 15) was full of some of the best tournament players in WSOP history. The table had eight former WSOP gold bracelet winners and if you were to add the wins up from all the players there were 32 wins at table Orange 15.

The table looked a little like this; Robert Williams, Daniel Alaei, Erick Lindgren and Alexander Kravchenko each with 1 bracelet.  Also at the table was Daneil Negreanu with 4 bracelet wins and Phil Ivey holding 5 bracelets.  Erik Seidel was at the table with 8 bracelet wins and last but definately not least was Phil Hellmuth Jr. with 11 bracelet wins.

The final table set another record with four former WSOP gold bracelet winners, they have 28 victories between them.  This wiped out the previous record that was set in the 2006 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship where there were 27 victories between the nine finalists.  It comes as no surprise that players from table Orange 15 were also sitting at the final table.

The four former WSOP gold bracelet winners sitting at the final table were John Juanda with 3 bracelets, Daniel Negreanu with 4 bracelets, Johhny chan with 10 bracelets and Phil Hellmuth Jr. with 11 bracelet wins.

But the pro's couldn't beat Phil Galfond a 23 year old professional player from Madison, WI.  He won $817,781 dollars and his first WSOP gold bracelet for his first place win and his fourth cash at the World Series of Poker.  “I had a big chip lead and I did not want to blow it,” Galfond said afterward.“So, the first thing I feel is relief that I did not blow the lead.”

The current Milwaukee’s Best Light “Player of the Year” standings still show that Erick Lindgren is on top of the points list with one gold bracelet win and four cashes.  But, look out Erick because Daniel Negreanu is now close behind along with Vanessa Selbst and Jacobo Fernandez.
