WSOP Event No. 33 Winner Sebastian Ruthenberg
Event No. 33 of the World Series of Poker was a $10,000 buyin Seven Card Stud High Low Split World Championship. The event started on June 17th and finished on June 19th with a winner. There were 261 players in the event all trying to get a piece of the $1,226,700 dollar prize pool but only the top 24 finishers would cash at the event.
This was the first million dollar prize pool for a Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split tournament in history. Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split was the first “split” game ever to be played at the World Series of Poker 32 years ago. The first Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split World Champion was Doc Green, he won the title back in 1976 and $12,750 dollars.
The game is played out almost the same but the both the highest and the lowest hands win and they split the pot equally. The lowest hand has to qualify to be eligible for the half the pot though, the qualifying low hand mush be eight low or better. Last year's $3,000 buyin World Championship had 236 entries and even with the buyin raising to $10,000 dollars there was still a 10.6 percent increase in players.
The winner of Event No. 33 and the 2008 Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split World Champion is Sebastian Ruthenberg, a 24 year old professional poker player from Hamburg, Germany. He started playing poker full time almost two years ago and is off to a good start with a $328,762 dollar win and his first WSOP gold bracelet for fist place finish.
