WSOP Event No. 35 Winner Michael Rocco
Event No. 35 of the World Series of Poker was a $1,500 buyin Seven Card Stud tournament that started on June 18th and finished up on June 21st. The tournament had 381 players enter in for a total prize pool of $520,065 dollars. At this event the top 40 finishers (the final five tables) would cash out.
Seven Card Stud originally made it's debut at the World Series of Poker back in 1973 and Puggy Pearson was the first champion. Since then there have many more winners and there are six players in the history of the WSOIP that won two gold bracelets in the event. Those players are; Bones Berland, Johnny Moss, Marty Sigel, Mel Judah, Ted Forrest and Men "the Master" Nguyen.
So far there has been only player to win three gold bracelets in the Seven Card Stud event and that player is Artie Cobb. He played in this year's event but didn't cash. Last year's champion Michael Keiner played in the event but also didn't cash. This brings the current streak to 35 straight non cashes for the defending champions in thier respective events.
The winner of this year's event was Mike Rocco, a 48 year old professional poker player from Las Vegas, Nevada. He won his way into the event by winning a $215 dollar single table satellite and collected $135,753 dollars and his first WSOP gold bracelet for his win.
He had some support in the stands watching him at the final table and after he won he pointed at Jeffrey Lisandro and Cycndy Violette and said, “I got more phone calls from my friends in the last two days than the last two months – and I don’t even owe them money!”
