WSOP Event No. 6 Winner Thang Luu

Event No. 6 of the World Series of Poker was a $1,500 buyin Omaha High Lo Split tournament that started on June 3rd and finished on June 5th.  The tournament has broken a WSOP record by being the largest Omaha High-Low Split tournament in poker history.  The event drew in 883 players this year to created a $1,137,045 dollar prize pool.

The previous record turnout was last year's $1,500 buy in tournament that attracted 690 players, this made for a 17 percent increase over last years numbers.  The event was the first of three Omaha High Low Split events on the 2008 World Series of Poker Schedule.  The next is on June 8th and has a    $2,000 dollar buyin.  The $10,000 buy-in Omaha High-Low Split world championship will take place on June 19th.

This is the second event of the WSOP where the final table wasn't taped for later broadcast on ESPN.  The final table played out adjacent to the main stage where Event No. 5 was finishing up.  Luu was the chip leader when play began at the final table, other players got close in chips at different times but he was in it to win it.

The first place winner in Event No. 6 was Thang Luu, a 33 year old professional poker player from Las Vegas, Nevada.  He was looking for a first place finish this year after taking second place in the 2,000 buy-in Omaha High-Low Split event at last year’s WSOP.  Luu got $243,342 dollars for his first place finish and his first WSOP gold bracelet.

In a post win interview Luu said, "I like to play every hand. I don’t miss any hands, especially when I am playing heads up. I might check in a few spots. But I play every hand (and try to keep my opponent guessing).  Winning a World Series of Poker title is very special. You know, now they look at your differently. Everyone knows who you are.  This is just the start. I have to play again Sunday (in the next Omaha High-Low Split event). I am running pretty good in Omaha right now."
