WSOP Event No. 8 Winner Anthony Rivera
Event No. 8 of the World Series of Poker was a $10,000 buyin Mixed Games World Championship tournament that started on June 3rd and finished playing on June 5th. The event drew in 192 players to create a $1,804,800 dollar prize pool. "Mixed Games" is a new event on this year's WSOP schedule, this was the first time in history that a major poker tournament included eight poker games.
The games included in the tournament were; No Limit Texas Hold'em, Pot Limit Omaha, Triple Draw Lowball, Limit Texas Hold'em, Omaha High Lo Split, Razz, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Eight or Better. Games were played on a rotation basis and changed every right hands. At the event were a lot of poker superstars, 76 out of the 192 entrants were former WSOP gold bracelet winners.
The top 24 players of the tournament would cash out at Event No. 8 but only one would take home the first place prize, the WSOP gold bracelet and the title of "Mixed Games World Champion". This event is categorized as a gold bracelet event as all of the 55 events in the WSOP and it is also a "world Championship" event so the winner of the event gets the title and the bracelet.
Starting this year all the $10,000 dollar plus tournaments are designated as official world championships. So there is going to be a total of 10 WSOP tournaments that will also be world championships, including eight gold bracelet tournaments that have a $10,000 buyin, the $50,000 buyin HORSE event and the Main Event.
The winner of the event was Anthony Rivera, a 22 year old professional poker player from Las Vegas, Nevada. He began playing poker on his computer about three years ago and had just turned 21 right before last year's WSOP and he played in a few events. This year though he got to cash at the WSOP and he made it a good one as he cashed out $483,688 dollars for his first place finish.
Rivera said after he won, "“This was a very tough field. But it did not intimidate me. I am used to playing with many of these players. I know many of them pretty well. I know I can play all the games well enough to win. I really do not have a ‘best’ game. I do not really play No-Limit, that much. I prefer the other games. I think I can play all the games well.”
