WSOP, Gus Hansen Reinvented!
Gus Hansen made his mark on the poker world by originally adapting his professional backgammon skills, for a run at a major poker tournament. He took the final table by storm, and won the first World Poker Tour Championship. Since then he has found some challenges in the events. His aggressive style became well know by the fact that he would play almost any two cards, even to the point of all in. The fellow professional poker scene had pegged his style.
Once in a while Gus will "pull a Gus" with a huge bet or call holding inferior cards, and win only because luck stops his way. This doesn't work in his favor as often when all of the opponents are more skillful in their choices. As the trend continued, Gus realized that his winning streak would be limited or eliminated due to his crazy and aggressive play methods. Earning the "Great" in his nickname, this Danish Poker Star, returned to the beginning in an effort to improve and adapt his unique problem and style to a more competitive method of poker strategy. He answered the question, how do you play competitively and win, against opponents who know your style?
Simply put, you change everything about your game play. Gus, after a bit of a absents from the poker world, appeared on NBC's Poker after Dark, a changed player. He adjusted his style to a more traditional tightly aggressive poker game. The other players had no idea what hit them. He took the table, and now the reinvented Gus Hansen, is putting his new poker style against other world accomplished poker players at the WSOP. He is taking his opponents by surprise, not letting on which Gus they are facing in any given hand. This could be the year for a Danish WSOP Champion.
