WSOP Says NO To Swearing
Poker fans and players look forward to the World Series of Poker every year. The WSOP is the number one event in poker and over the past few years many changes have been made. Harrah’s Entertainment, the group that runs the WSOP, has made the changes to make the WSOP better, though some may disagree.
A few of the latest changes have been the break between June and November. The final table is not held until November now and this will be the second year that the November Nine will take place. Other events have been added as well.
The most recent change to be added to the World Series of Poker is a new rule. The 2009 WSOP will be profanity free. No profanity of any kind is allowed. Many sources believe the new ruling was created after the incident with Scotty Nguyen at the HORSE final table. Scotty was drunk and said some things he now regrets. It was a big deal and really shed a bad light on the WSOP.
Harrah’s new ruling states: “Harrah's prohibits the use of obscene or foul language in any public area of the casino at any time. Any player who uses such language or makes a foul, profane, obscene or vulgar statement, or speaks abusively or in an intimidating manner to another player, a dealer or a Tournament staff member, will be penalized.”
It will be interesting to see how many times, if any, the new swearing rule is broken. I imagine it will be very hard for some poker pros to keep quiet!
